Chinese as Second Language----beginning (three years)

 

Course Description:
Chinese as second language is a Chinese class for students from non‐Chinese speaking families to learn Chinese culture and Chinese language.

Objective:
By the end of the year, students who successfully complete the course will be able to:

          • Count numbers in Chinese.
          • Say the words for many colors.
          • Understand teacher’s class commands in Chinese.
          • Conduct simple conversations about limited life topics such as self-introduction.
          • Know the basic stroke names in Chinese and understand the stroke order of Chinese characters.
          • Recognize basic characters and sentence patterns.
          • Discuss Chinese festivals such as Chinese New Year, Moon Festival and Dragon Boat Festival.
          • Know Chinese art, such as paper-cut.

 

Teaching Methodology:
The class meets once a week on Saturday for two hours. Students will conduct conversation about an assigned topic weekly. They will practice Chinese words and sentences through a variety of fun instructional activities such as role plays, singing songs, group activities, crafts, drawings, games and presentations. Additionally, students will learn how to write simple Chinese characters. The teacher will use Chinese in class as much as possible and will use authentic materials and visual tools to make the learning more interesting and meaningful.

 

Chinese as Second Language –intermediate. (Three years)

 

Course Description: 
Chinese as a second language focuses on basic speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. Prerequisite: Students should have already taken at least three years of beginning level class and can understand simple class instructions in Chinese. 

 

Objective: 
By the end of the school year, students who successfully complete the course will be able to:

  • Understand teacher’s instructions in Chinese
  • Carry conversations on daily life topics such as introducing themselves and their families.
  • Talk about date, time and their birthday.
  • Talk about daily and school schedule.
  • Talk about weather.
  • Talk about professions.
  • Talk about hobbies.
  • Know the words for transportation and cities.
  • Read and write between 120 basic characters in the text book.
  • Have general knowledge about China such as its main landmarks and important festivals.

 

Teaching Methodology: 
The class will meet every Saturday for two hours. Students will practice conversation for weekly topic. Students will participate in fun instructional activities such as role playing, group discussions, drawings and presentations. Students will learn the new vocabulary through flash cards, stories, and games. Students will learn how to write short paragraphs in Chinese. There will be take-home assignments every week. The teacher will use Chinese in the class as much as possible. The schedule will be adjusted according to student’s age and skill level.

Course Description:

Adult Chinese as second language (ACSL) beginning class is designed to introduce the basic Chinese language skills as well as the Chinese culture to the non-Chinese speaking adults. The class emphasizes the following four skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. The beginning level class will last for two semesters (fall and spring). By the end of the year the students should be able to use the Chinese pronunciation Pinyin and know 60 basic Chinese characters, and some simple Chinese language grammar structures.

 

Objective: 
By the end of the year, students who successfully complete the course will be able to:

  1. Master Chinese pronunciation system---Pinyin
  2. Master Chinese character writing rules and apply to the character writing skill.
  3. Understand 6 basic Chinese sentence structures.
  4. Use basic survival conversations communicate with native speakers.
  5. Understand more about Chinese unique social-culture.

 

Teaching Methodology:
The class meets once a week on Saturday for one hour. Student will conduct conversation about an assigned topic weekly. They will practice Chinese words and sentences through a variety of fun instructional activities such as role playing, singing songs, group activities, games and presentations. Additionally, students will learn how to write simple Chinese characters. The teacher will use Chinese in class as much as possible and will use authentic materials and visual tools to make the learning more interesting and meaningful. Also, the teacher will introduce new technologies, such as App games, Chinese learning websites etc. to help students in home practice.

Curriculum of Math 数学

First Grade: 一年级

  1. Correctly grasp the bit and multi-digit addition and subtraction;
  2. The number of digital means。
  3. Learn to analyze word problems, know how to solve the problem。
  4. On the currency and be aware of the basic three-dimensional graphics.

Second grade: 二年级

  1. Correctly grasp the single-digit multiplication and division.
  2. Mixed arithmetic and word problems.
  3. Understanding of line and time.
  4. Understand the million less than the number of pronunciation and writing.

Third grade: 三年级

  1. Correctly grasp the double-digit multiplication and division.
  2. Weight units and their understanding of how the conversion.
  3. Correct analysis of two-step word problems, and can out-type solution.
  4. Learn the basics of statistics.
  5. Master Square, rectangular and parallelogram meaning, learning calculates the perimeter of squares and rectangles.

 

Fourth grade: 四年级:

  1. Proper understanding of multiplication and division of integers.
  2. Arithmetic order and the correct answer.
  3. Understanding of angles, perpendicular and parallel lines.
  4. Understanding of fractions and decimals, and control the definition of decimal addition and subtraction operations.

 

Fifth grade: 五年级

  1. Divisible by the number of correctly grasp.
  2. Cuboids and the cube of the meaning, and the volume and surface area        calculation.
  3. Preliminary knowledge of statistics.
  4.  Fraction addition and subtraction.

Sixth grade: 六年级

  1. Correctly grasp the cylinder and the cone, that the calculation of volume and surface area.
  2. Ratio and proportion.
  3. Tables, bar charts and stitches charts.

Curriculum of Chinese Dance

Beginning


1.To cultivate children's interest in dance;
2.Learn the basic performance of dance;
3.Basic physical training, and learn some basic Chinese dance;
4.Begin to master the simple use of the performance of Chinese dance props, such as handkerchief, tambourine and so on.

 

Intermediate

 

1.Strengthen the physical training, and basic skills training;
2.Need to adapt to the correct dance posture, complete, smooth, accurate, elegantly performing a variety of styles of dance;
3.Learn about different ethnic dances, to understand the different dance styles and movement performance, acquire a certain amount of footwork and hand positions;
4.To have more use of the performance of Chinese dance props such as fans, umbrellas and so on.

The Kung Fu class teaches traditional Chinese martial arts with initial emphasis on conditioning, flexibility and self-defense skills. A variety of stances, kicks and strikes are practiced individually, then combined in Northern Long Fist bare hand forms, which introduce coordination of stepping, blocking, striking and kicking. At the intermediate level, Kung Fu class features training of reaction and fighting habits for self-defense applications through practice of fighting form drills with a partner. The student develops a strong foundation of techniques as well as natural, fluid reactions which are later practiced in more advanced bare hand, weapon, and two-person forms.
